| Warnings | | These instructions apply only to Versions 6.5.x or newer. Instructions for migrating workgroups in other versions can be found in this article.
You may also wish to upgrade Tracker to the latest version. If you are going to upgrade to the latest version, it is strongly recommended that you complete the upgrade process before attempting to migrate your database from Access to Oracle. Attempting to upgrade to the latest version at the same time as migrating could result in irreversible damage to your database. Please contact NetResults Technical Support if you have questions. You can download the latest version of Tracker from the Support Downloads page. | | | Description | | This article provides the steps needed to migrate a Tracker 6.5.x or newer workgroup from Access to Oracle.
In the following procedure, <installation directory> indicates the typical location for the installation files. The default is C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\NetResultsTracker.
- Ensure you have a backup of the bugtrack.mdb file for the workgroup. By default, this can be found at \workgroup\Database\bugtrack.mdb where workgroup is the name of the workgroup that will be migrated to Oracle. You can find the path to the workgroup by logging into the Workgroup Management System. Click on the View icon to the left of the workgroup. The Database will be located in a folder called "Database" one level below the path listed in the "Location" field in the General section.
- Ensure you have a backup of the contents of the Attachments folder for the workgroup. By default, this can be found at \workgroup\Attachments where workgroup is the name of the workgroup that will be migrated to Oracle. Or, check the path on the View Page of a workgroup in WMS. The Attachments folder will be located one level below the path listed in the "Location" field in the General section.
- Complete the steps in the Using Oracle Database Help section on the machine where Oracle is installed
- Login to the Workgroup Management System (WMS) by browsing to http://localhost/ptadmin on the machine where Tracker is installed
- Click on the Migrate icon in the Button Bar, select the workgroup you wish to migrate from the pulldown menu, then click on the Migrate button below the pulldown menu
- Details of your current workgroup configuration will be displayed. In the "Migrate To:" section, select Oracle as the database type, enter the location (the TCP/IP hostname / IP Address / System Identifier of the machine where Oracle is installed). Enter a Database User Name and Database User Password. Enter the database name that you created when performing the steps in the Using Oracle Database Help section. If you wish to create a new Database User, check the box for "Create Database User", confirm the Database User Password. In order to create a new user, you will be prompted to enter the credentials of a high privileged Oracle user with DBA role (e.g. "system"). Enter information in the History Comment field, then click on the Continue button to proceed with the migration process.
If you have checked Create Database User option, you will be asked to choose the Default Tablespace Name for the database user. You can also specify a New Tablespace name that will be created and set as the default for the user. Make the desired changes and click Continue to proceed.
A confirmation page will be displayed. Click on the Migrate Database button to proceed. Click OK to confirm.
- You will be prompted to click on the "Create Tables" button once the migration step has been completed. This will create the schema for your Oracle database. Click OK after the operation is successful.
- Stop and re-start IIS so that the new database information will be used by IIS. To do this, launch IIS Manager. Right click on the server name and click on "Restart IIS"
- You will need to use Oracle's data import utility to import your Access database into the database of the migrated workgroup. Your Access database is located in the directory where your workgroup is installed. Click on the View icon to the left of the workgroup. The Database will be located in a folder called "Database" one level below the path listed in the "Location" field in the General section. In order to import your Access file into the database of your migrated Oracle workgroup, please consult your Oracle documentation to use the import utility available in Oracle.
- You can login to your new workgroup by going back to the Workgroup Management System Home Page and clicking on the login icon to the left of the name of the migrated workgroup. Alternatively, you can login to your workgroup by browsing to http://servername/workgroup where servername is the TCP/IP name of the machine where Tracker is installed.
